I've very recently split from my husband of 16 years. I've applied for UC and I think I'm entitled to child benefit too. Do I apply for this separately? Thank you guys

Yes child benefit is separate

And council tax reduction is also separate and needs to be applied for through your local council.

Yes how old are your kids OP? Are you not in receipt of it already?

WrongKindOfFace · 14/07/2019 08:12

Actually, if you’re not already getting child benefit you might want to dig out their birth certificates as usually they check the children’s identities by checking the child benefit records.

You should have applied and been receiving child benefit since the children were born

Depends if her dh was earning over £60k as if they claimed it then it would all need to be paid back. Maybe they opted out of payment. Although it was universal for a long time. Are you sure it isn't being claimed already?

I was claiming it until the new rule came in and because husband earns over £60k we didn't have CB.
