Can someone help me settle an "argument"?! Does anyone know what contribution the police pay to police staff for pensions? (Admin staff!) thanks!

No idea but wouldn’t it depend on which scheme you were in, how long you had been in it and how much you contribute, also potentially what grade you are.

Police staff outside London are in LGPS, for the MPS or COLP they are in the civil service scheme.

I'll try and find you the links to show the contribution rates.

PinkBuffalo · 30/06/2019 15:21

Mines 6.5% as well

MagentaRocks · 30/06/2019 15:28

Mine is 6.5 too

avalanching · 30/06/2019 15:32

Thanks everyone, do you know what the police pay into it though? I thought local government was about 14% does that sound right?

Hmmmmm that I don’t know 🙈

It's so strange how hard it is to find this info!

I'm pretty sure it's matched, so 6.5% which brings it to 13% all together

avalanching · 30/06/2019 16:09

@PinkBuffalo it should be more than that, my private sector pension matches but I know LGPS is more (as my colleagues who were tuped over cost a lot more!)

I don't think mine is more. I'm quite financially savvy really but know I'm probably never going to see my pension so don't think about it much lol. I just have it really for the death in service benefits (cheerful I know! Grin)

avalanching · 30/06/2019 20:40

If it's LGPS I would be very surprised if it's only matched, I have 3 LGPS pensions and they're all larger contributions, that's the whole benefit of public sector pensions and why they are sort after. My rubbish private pension is matched only. The person I'm discussing this with is finding out so I will report back, as she thinks she's only matched but she's been private sector her whole life and I've been trying to explain public sector pensions. I will put my hands up if I'm wrong!

Lgps employer contribution will be somewhere 13%-17%. It is calculated on a regional basis, so lgps oxfordshire will have a different rate to lgps Buckinghamshire etc.
