Just that really? Joint mortgage and want to swap to sole name

Unfortunately, even if you are paying the mortgage on your own now, that won't allow a lender to give you a new deal in your name. There are new strict affordability criteria that lenders must use. It has led to people bring trapped in old deals as they won't be accepted for new ones (that would actually reduce their payments).

Here's a documentary about it www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0bp2dsj

Best thing I found was getting a mortgage in principal letter from another bank. Then going and speaking to my bank who even when I didn’t meet the criteria exactly reviewed my case. Lots of paperwork later flat was mine.

I have just realised that you say you are paying the mortgage alone now. Why is that? He is liable too and should be paying.

If your parents are helping you money wise, perhaps you could ask one of them to be in the mortgage? Depending on their ages and status it would really help

freshstartnewme · 30/05/2019 09:11

I can afford to pay the mortgage on my own and that's what I'm doing just now, so it is manageable

It's what you pay it with thats key though.

Carers Allowance, Tax Credits & Child Benefit? Anything else?

I have been trying to get my mortgage in my own name. I work part time have benefits and maintenance. When it is being paid. And it was a no for me. I got a broker involved. He was more hopeful. Bit maintenance has stopped being paid so I'm stuck for the time being.

I pay all the bills a small mortgage on my parents property and a big fat loan I was left with. But it is about your income. Regardless on you already paying the bills yourself.

clpsmum · 31/05/2019 12:48

Yes it sucks. I'm not feeling very hopeful
Sad

Yes, you absolutely can take someone off the mortgage.

No, you can’t.

You can apply for a new mortgage in your name only, which supersedes the current mortgage, but if you aren’t approved, then you will both be stuck on the existing one.

SpideyMom · 31/05/2019 13:32

@eve34 oh you sound just like me. Luckily my mortgage has always been soley in my name but because of my low income, tax credits and maintenance that has now stopped no one will look at me when I try to remortgage :-(

freshstartnewme · 31/05/2019 13:33

No, you can’t.

Yes, you can.

Don't think it will happen he is being very unreasonable. Wants me to take on the full outstanding mortgage and pay him half of the full value of the house

OP posts:
SpideyMom · 01/06/2019 14:27

What an arse. Until the house is fully paid for he is not entitled to half of its value. What a nob

clpsmum · 01/06/2019 17:48
