Housing & council tax debts

Hi,
I’m currently in rent arrears by around £1300, and council tax arrears by £1500.
Is there any advice or tips people could offer to try and sort these out as they are a major worry of mine.

Talk to council tax about the debt from previous years and keeping up with 2019/20 council tax.

You want to avoid court charges for summons

Who is your landlord?
Do you work?

You really need a complete financial overhaul to look at where you’re money is being spent and what income you have coming in. Step change or citizen advise can help but you can also look at money advisory website and they have a budgeting section which does it for you.

How many people in your household? How many bedrooms? Do you have non dependent in household? If so what are they contributing?

Do you claim everything you’re entitled to? Benefits wise

If you want some help here with your income and outgoings post away.

I am in a similar situation and buried my head in the sand for a long time, yesterday I called them both and set up reasonable payment plans they were really understanding and very helpful.

It's always hard to face it but especially with c/tax you must call them ASAP.

You need to write up a full budget, see how much you can cut back and then offer a payment plan to the council and your landlord. Do it ASAP. If you can't do it yourself (there is lots of help online) then go to Citizens Advice, Stepchange or Christians Against Poverty and they will help.
