Universal credit. What happens if i leave my job while on SMP

I'm currently on ML and getting SMP. My baby is 7 months, I'm due back to work in 4 weeks.

If I put my notice in at work will I be eligible for UC even though I resigned from work?
I live with my partner who works.

If you make your self unemployed you don't get help.

Leaving your job voluntarily shouldn’t affect applying for UC as it’s income based. If you were applying for contributions based JSA it may affect it and you can lose 3 month’s payments.

If I'm right under UC rules a child under 1 doesn't require for the main carer to look for work so I was thinking it wouldn't effect my claim if I do leave my job. Does this sound right?

That’s right. When baby turns one you’ll move to the work focused group and then when baby is 2 you will go to the work prep group.

I didn't know they changed it, the last time I had to prove that I was asked to leave my job. This was years ago. Glad to hear it's changed.

@cherryblossomgin
Yes I was thinking the same iv Googled but couldn't find anything about been on SMP, leaving work and claiming UC.

All I could find was the old system JSA which does say I would receive no payments for upto 3 months but its UC in my area.
