Can a BACS transfer really take more than 5 days once actioned?

Just that really. Family member owed money. He was told by the company that owes him the money that a BACS transfer was actioned a week ago. However, the money has not yet arrived in his account. Am wondering whether person at the company was telling the truth Hmm

No I wouldn't believe them

Yep - just had one that took 7 working days!

burnoutbabe · 08/03/2019 22:29

Well you can set up a bacs payment for a future date? Ie we'd say at work that the payment is on next weeks bacs run, which may mean you get it latest following Tuesday if we dated it Friday.

dementedpixie · 08/03/2019 22:34

Normally 3 days for a bacs payment. Faster payments take 2 hours

coffeeforone · 08/03/2019 22:49

They could just mean it's in the next BACS run, post dated - the accounts payable team in my office set up future dated BACS payment runs about a week in advance.

Thanks all. If it hasn't arrived on Monday, I'll get him to ask whether it's post-dated (not that the company has any right to be delaying payment!)

I find BACS payments are usually instant. Maximum 2 hours. That what happened when I make one from my personal or business accounts, anyway.

BACS isn't the same as faster payments system. Even with BACS it shouldn't take that amount of time though
