My 3 y/o DS has autism and does not understand that I am unable to pay for his school trip that is to a zoo next month. I am not able to pay as I do not get payed until the start of next month and the payment is due to be in by Monday the 25th of February. I feel embarrassed to ask for extra time to pay as I am afraid I will be turned down! I need advice!

Nursery or prep-school?

Ask them for assistance?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 22/02/2019 21:27

Speak to his teacher. The school will have a way of sorting this. Please dont be embarrassed about it.

student26 · 22/02/2019 21:27

Just have a quiet word with the school, they will be absolutely fine and understand in these circumstances. Just let them know as soon as possible and they might be able to sort something out for you both. Good luck.

Thank you all for your helpful advice, I feel as though I should not be embarrassed because I know I am not the only person struggling in this world however I grew up with proud parents and now feel as though I have let them down with my money problems. Once again, thank you all for being so understanding and I shall follow your advice!GrinHalo

My dd didn’t want to go on a school trip - that said was optional on letter- so we didn’t put her down or pay. The school phoned me a few days before to ask if I needed assistance paying... er no

But op I’d ask as the school will be used to parents not being able to afford everything and may have some money for situations like this

CoachBombay · 22/02/2019 21:43

Speak to the school, honestly! I had a similar short fall in funds due to the car failing it's MOT and needing £300 to get it through.

I didn't want my son to miss out on the trip with all his peers. I went to the school and explained and they had a fund they paid for the trip out of, I then just reimbursed them when I had my pay at the end of the month.

AnxiousMcAnxiousFace · 22/02/2019 21:44

Are you entitled to Pupil Premium? Trips are something that is covered by this. Payment for trips is, of course optional, but school would be very appreciative of late payment rather than no payment. They absolutely won’t judge you.

Babyroobs · 22/02/2019 22:33

Have you tried to claim DLA for him ? it would help a lot for him if he is awarded it plus all the extra tax credit premiums that go with it.

Wolfiefan · 22/02/2019 22:36

Why does he know about your ability to pay? He’s 3!
I’m guessing this isn’t “school” but whoever it is you need to sort it out with them and don’t involve your child.
