Universal credit and benefits

Hello!
So I made a claim to universal credits a couple of weeks ago and am currently waiting for my first payment,I went to an interview last week and got told this should be on the 18th of March.

My question is I thought when you’re waiting for your claim for universal credit to come through your other benefits stop but I got paid my child tax credits today.

Can Anyone help?:)

You may need to ring them to stop them. You will now have an overpayment of child tax credits which they will take back from your UC although they can't take it all at once. Sometimes they seem to stop automatically but obviously not here so ring them.

Okay thank you! Who should I ring universal credits or tax credits?

Tax credits .

I agree with the advice above BUT if you are struggling for money you do have 30 days to tell them about changes, so you could wait for your payment and pay them back. If you are not in a dire situation then don't but obviously some have been crippled by the wait for UC so I'm just letting you know that is an option if you can't afford food.

Most people can are offered a UC advance at their ID meeting to tide them over to the first Uc payment.

Thank you for your help.

I called universal credits as couldn’t get through to tax credits and she said it’s probably just a payment that had already been put through and not to worry because any payments I get show up to them anyway and they can change accordingly
