Can't apply for universal credit advance payment

Hoping someone can help me out here.
Applied for UC on the 1st of Feb, had my apps on Wednesday, tried to apply for an advance and couldn't. Rang them up today to find out what's happening and got told that a decision hasn't been made on my claim yet and there's no set date as to when that decision will be made.
So in the meantime I can't get an advance payment. I've just started a new job and get paid monthly, got transport for work to pay for and three kids to feed.
What can I do?

Have you tried applying on your online journal?

Noname17 · 11/02/2019 19:01

Yes

Your local authority might have a hardship fund you could apply for. Ours has they will only give the money is uc has refused an advance payment
All schemes are individual

Just had a look on my council website and unfortunately they don't have it, just housing related funds.

Are you from an EU country and need to pass the habitual residency test first??

Stickmangate · 12/02/2019 06:24

I’m not doubting you. Ours is under benefits and then help paying housing costs. If you pm or PST the name of the council we can check for you as well as it might not be that clear the uc claimants can claim

Food Bank for food and spend money on transport?
See if your company offers any sort of scheme where they advance money for season tickets etc?

wooolo · 16/02/2019 10:10

Have you checked to see if there's anything outstanding in your "to-do" list?

Usually an advance isn't available if there's something outstanding that needs verifying or the maximum advance has already been taken.

Bombardier25966 · 16/02/2019 10:16

Please contact your MP @Noname17. They keep telling us the excessive wait is OK because you can get an advance, but as you've found the reality is very different.

For food, you can get a food bank referral from the Jobcentre or your GP, sometimes from the council offices too.

For travel to work, is there anything you can sell quickly on Facebook or to a local trade in type place?

Noname17 · 16/02/2019 10:24

Thanks guys. My to do list is all complete. There's nothing outstanding as I've provided everything. I rang them yesterday and was told my HRT (I have ILR) has not been completed yet and it's a first come first serve basis. The salvation army food Bank is only open on Thursday. I'm trying to see if I can sell some things but I don't have a lot of things to begin with. I'm just stumped at the service.

Are you in Scotland? You can apply for a Scottish welfare fund. They give you money to help until you get a payment for uc or can refer you for a food bank

Update!
Last night I sent a scathing journal entry and today just received an entry saying that I'm entitled and can now get my advance. Phew!
