Over £100 on elec and gas in 40 days?

I just got a bill and during the course of 40 days, I have spent £114 on gas and electric... is that a lot of money to you or am I just being tight here? We're a family of 3, live in a 2 bedroom flat.

Our main source of energy is electric, but our heating is gas.

I only put the heating on in the mornings, 2 hours in the afternoon and 4 hours at night. It's a thermostat.

I am thinking going with another supplier and getting a smart meter put in sounds like a cheaper option in the long run.

I'm currently using dual fuel. Is this cheaper or should I go on two separate fuels?

If that's for 40 days of usage (real numbers not estimate), in winter, it's below average, which you'd expect in a flat, if it's well insulated with a good central heating system.

Average is about £100 pm for the whole year, and you use more in winter and less in summer.

Sounds standard to me for winter. I pay £135 a month for both and I am on the cheapest tarriff available. I have a 2 bed house.

Sounds about right for this time of year

I saw a headline this morning about the energy price cap being lifted imminently which will push bills up again, so might be a good time to look around and get a fixed tariff to safeguard against this for a year or two. I didn't spot anything about timings but I suggest moving fast rather than delaying

Wouldn't say it was massive for winter....I have a smart meter and I when I log into my account we used £114 in January. Gas/electric. 3 bed 30s semi It's higher due to heating, gas isn't cheap! Our electric usage is low. In summer our bills are £40 ish but we pay £70/80 a month to cover winter heating. Only two of us.

OP That's roughly £85 for a month then. Not bad at all for a winter month. Always worth checking that you're on the cheapest supplier for your area though.

I'm gonna go against everyone else and say thats expensive. We spend £50 a month for gas and electric. 2 bed house, 2 adults and a baby.

When i lived in a flat i used to spend £20 a month on electric (no gas).
