IMPOSSIBLE to get through to HMRC

I’ve started a new job, I owe some tax money and when I did my returns last I asked them to take it out of my salary. I’m getting letters asking for the money otherwise I’ll be fined. I just want to speak to a human to make sure they take it out of my salary . Each time you get in a loop with the robot and then get told to hang up because “ we’re very busy right now. Please ring another time”. No telephone chat available either I guess I’ll have to write to them.

Hi everyone and thanks for all the good advice.
I got onto HMRC 1st thing this morning. After answering robot voice’s statutory near endless questions I got into an agent who was very helpful and has organised things so the tax is paid out of my salary over 12 months. Phew!

Great news what

Does anyone know (Nat?) if they automatically refund money that's been overpaid?

I don't live in UK but had to pay some CGT and stupidly paid one bill twice last year.

If you log into your HMRC account you will be able to request repayment of the balance.
Do it a couple of times
and they should pay you by mid January

Thanks for that info Ta1kinpeace, but I don't have an HMRC account as I don't live in UK.

TalkinPeace · 27/12/2018 20:59

What was the reference number on the CGT calculation?
THat is your UK tax reference number
you do not have to be in the UK to set up a gateway account

I'll have a google and see if I can find anything about it on their website.
