Nosy credit card questions

My credit card company recently emailed me and said I had to tell them my nationality and occupation for their records. They have given me a deadline of 3 weeks to provide them with the information and say that if I don't tell them they may suspend my account.

I find it incredibly intrusive and don't think it is any of their business, why would they suddenly need to know this information? I have had a card with them for about 18 months .

It's new banking regulations in place to stop money laundering and fraud. Not 100% sure why they need to know your occupation - maybe to check your employer is in this country?

DD has just applied for her first credit card today (to build up her credit rating) and was asked her nationality and whether her ccupation was FT/PT/Permanent or Temporary and whether it was skilled, graduate, professional etc etc.

I've received letters from my bank a while ago asking to confirm the same thing, even though I've had account with them for several years.

If it was my first credit card I would probably go along with it but I have an excellent credit history going back 35 years. Their loss, I will simply cancel my card.
