Help me find a cheap hard mattress to save my back

On a low budget but need to invest in a hard mattress. I have no idea where to begin as can't test them in a shop as can't get there at the moment.

Is there a mattress that doesn't go down in the middle?! A really hard one as I lie on my back, not side.

I just wasted 100 pounds on a matress that has gone soft already.

So will have to spend more this time but not ott. Anyone know of a good one? Thanks

I’d say as a rule of the thumb, you get what you pay for and a cheap mattress isn’t a good idea. Especially if you want a firm one. £100 is very cheap for a mattress.

If you can afford the payments there are plenty of major chains that will price match the cheaper online prices and also offer insterest free credit so you can spread the cost. I wouldn’t usually advocate getting into debt but a good mattress is important for your general well being.

Cheap mattresses are cheap for a reason. A mattress is something worth paying more for.

Thanks for your replies. I might look at finance options as can't continue like this. Just don't know where to begin with brands. They say firm but I don't know to trust it!

Try the which website for reviews on almost anything. I think you have to pay for it but you can get a week or something for £1 then cancel it.

Also some bed retailers do a 100 night sleep guarantee
Thing, where they will refund you after that if you’re not happy?

Ikea firm is really firm, we have the foam one on our spare bed and it is too hard for me.

Ikea

Another Ikea vote from me.

I'm sleeping in the spare room at the moment whilst decorating my bedroom and the cheap mattress I bought from Ikea for the spare bed is surprisingly comfy.

It's this one and it comes rolled so will go in the car:

Ikea roll up foam. I have had mine for a year and it's perfect. I had a different brand before and it was still perfect 10 years later. Like sleeping on a soft carpeted floor

Another vote for IKEA

But you also need to do physio if you aren’t already

Sealy ortho mattresses

Another vote for Ikea and they have a 90 day trial period.

The spend more = better quality isn't true anymore

The HOVAG won Which mattress of the year @ £190

I have the MALFORS and it's amazing

Our Otty is very firm. It was around £500 which is cheap for a double. We've only had it a few months, so not sure of it's durability.

DameSquashalot · 31/10/2018 17:14

DD's single was £400 from Warren Evans - it was one of their cheaper mattresses. It's hard, but too hard. Our double (king) is much better value.

Look on ebay, there are firms that sell beautiful (new) mattresses of all types. I bought an orthopaedic bed with mattress from there this year and you can buy mattresses singly. The firms are in Yorkshire, there are a few of them. They deliver quickly too. Just put orthopaedic bed/mattress in the search and have a look. Mine came from a firm in West Yorkshire, a couple of years before that we'd bought one for a flat and that came from a different firm in same area but was the same excellent quality. Quite deep too. I love my bed!
