Maternity Pay Teachers, and tax?

I will start my mat leave in Jan and i'm trying to get my head around how mat pay will work and planning to see what our household income will be. I understand the mat pay for teachers, but i'm really confused with tax. Will the amount i'm taxed every month change or will i continue paying my regular amount of tax and then get a rebate in April?

It changes, towards the end of the year they were paying it back to me

It changes based on that month's earnings. As expected they miscalculated mine and I had a lovely rebate in April.
