Student loans - HMRC owes me money!

So Student Loans Company hasn’t received my repayments - around £900! They said they would ask HMRC to refund me the money as SLC weren’t due to receive it. It’s with HMRC apparently as they deducted from my pay.

HMRC haven’t refunded me, I’ve been told when I’ve rang up that somebody will ring me back and they haven’t. They haven’t replied to my two letters.

Any ideas? I know if I owed HMRC money they would be demanding ur back.

Why did your employer deduct the money if it was not due?

Surely easier to get your employer to add it back into your pay and dock it off their monthly PAYE payment

Is this relating to the current tax year? I've found it impossible to get HMRC to agree to any refunds before the tax year is over and you can prove categorically that is it due.

They were deducted from a previous employer. I had ticked the student loan box on the PAYE form on the pre joining paperwork as it asked me if I had an outstanding student loan.

It’s from the 2016 tax year. I asked SLC for a statement this year and it transpired that they hadn’t received any of my repayments.

My husband has issues, he had to keep paying and then it got refunded at the end of the tax year.

Recorded delivery letter titled Formal Complaint - with a copy to your MP

that should do the trick

Thanks for the replies.

If HMRC wanted money back from me they would be writing demanding it back instantly!

Have you finished paying off your student loan?

HMRC are indeed a PITA when they owe money to people.

They owe one of my clients £11000 Grin
