overpaid income tax, how can I get it back?

I was in a commission based role until the end of July, I had some good months and made good commission but the take home was always lower than I expected. I changed jobs in July and I have just looked into how much tax I have paid this year so far and how I much I should have paid and I believe I overpaid by a couple of grand. How do I go about getting it back now, and not after the tax year has ended? And can I get it back in one payment, rather than monthly installments? I could really do with the money.

thank you in advance for any suggestions.

You can just ring HMRC, my son did this and had the refund within a couple of weeks.
