Grandparents rights

We have a 3 week old grandson and social services have been to court to obtain an interim care order. We were aware of this as my son's girlfriend has emotional problems. She has been in care herself. My son is only 17 years of age and has been in trouble and unruly to say the least. He has not got an exuse for his behaviour as he comes from a good family who love and care for him a lot. We have been put down as fall back carers if they fail this care plan. I was told by social services that I could not be involved in court proceedings? After ringing court they have said that we can but there is a fee of £150 and that it would be wise to gain a solicitor. Does any body know anything about this type of thing or what rights we may have as grandparents.

No but bumping for you.

Speak to CAB, get a family solicitor.

Hi lijaco

I've had a quick look on google and found this website for you www.grandparents-association.org.uk/
I've been looking into parental responsibility a lot just lately and i know that you can apply for residence orders, but obviously I don't know the ins and outs of it all. My advice is contact a family solicitor asap. It would be a crying shame for your grandson to be taken into care when he has loving grandparents willing to take care of him.

I hope everything works out well for you

My husband and I are fighting for grandparents rights. Our son married 2 years ago and we have not seen our 4 and a half grandson for 18 months. We also have a 14 month old grandson we have never met. They live 3 miles away. Cafcass are interviewing my son and daughter in law who has accused me of stalking her and assaulting her. She has no proof and I never did it. Next hearing in April. So stressful for my husband and I who have been married 34 years.

Packer..... you should start your own thread.

But in response to your post, I don’t think you have any rights here.
If your son and DIL don’t want their kids to have a relationship with. You then there’s nothing you can do I’m afraid.

Packer, I am afraid that you need to start your own thread. This one is over ten years old.
