Could someone please help me as I’m completely confused and the guy on the phone at HMRC was rude to me and I got upset.

I called them up to cancel my claim as my partner is moving in and together we earn too much.

He said is he finically contributing now to which I said no he’s moving in over the weekend (this Sunday)

I was told in that case I have to pay back everything I have claimed since April.?!?

He said if I told him that he was living with me today it would be a different matter.. as I was upset Regarding all the money I have to pay back I didn’t ask what he meant, would anyone know?

I’m just confused, anxiety has now set in as I can’t afford to pay it back as he said I need to pay it back in full. When I said I couldn’t he did say I can request monthly payments but depends on income and sometimes Not always possible 😪

I would ring again and say you were a bit confused by the first person you spoke to rather than worrying necessary.
