Housing benefit and tax credits

Do these affect each other?
Been getting tax credits since 2012, only getting HB for just under a year. Should I have reported getting HB or will HMRC already know?

Housing benefit won't affect tax credits but tax credits will affect HB.

I think its best to always report benefit changes. I think youll be fine op.
