UC- in mother's name?

I was reading universal credit is paid in one payment to the family, whereas just now we get tax credits and the child credit goes to my account and working credit to DH's.

So when it changes to UC as I am in charge of the claim do I just transfer it over to my account and it is on my sole charge? And then I can set up a standing order for a similar amount as now to his account?

I wonder why they can't do the same as tax credits...

No you make a joint claim to UC and then choose which account it goes into. I suppose it's then up to you if you wish to divide it up. I guess most would just see it as household income. It's a totally different benefit to tax credits, there is no particular element paid to the person working , people will qualify for different elements according to their circumstances and then a lump payment is paid after a deduction made for wages.

So the claim is initially online similar to tax credits and you put the bank details in then?

You would need to submit bank details when you make the initial UC claim online yes.

Ok, good, I can be in charge there then!
