as I'd only just remortgaged to a fixed rate and it means we're now saving even more than we would have before

Hey I am fixed at 4.5% till 2010 and yes it always cheers me to see what we would have been paying otherwise.

I was as well Twiglett - we put our mortgage onto a fixed rate for the rest of the term of the mortgage, and the rates have subsequently done nothing but go up. Evil Witch 3.

Well I don't have a mortgage, so I guess I need to weigh up whether the extra insterets on our savings outweighs the slowdown in house prices.

lol. my last mortagage was fixed, loved it for the first year when rates went up and up and up, oh but then they started going down and down and down.....

my last mortgage was a tracker but pegged at Bank of England for 2 years when rates went down and down and down
