Hi there,
Not really sure if this is the right area to ask this quesion but im really confused and frustrated and would appreciate any help with this one!
I had my bag stolen 6 months ago. I reported everything stolen within the hour but the theif had managed to use my card multiple times in this time. She used it for multiple contactless payments of around £25. The bank left these transactions 'pending' for a few days and they then dissapeared and my money was refunded back into my account.
I reported everything to the police, gave them all the information etc. They didnt want to pursue it with it only being a 'minor crime' but I really insited as they purposely targeted my place of work and there was a child involved in the theft. They got the theif on cctv in multiple shops in a couple of days (buying booze and cigarettes) and identified them. 6 months down the line, I've given a statement (4 seperate times to different officers) both in person and arranged them coming to my place of work 3 times and my home twice. I've also talked to them on the phone multiple times (usually after at least 40 mins waiting on the non emergency number) and done everything they asked. They have now asked me for an in-depth statement of the day in question. Ive got this from my bank but the fraudulant uses dont appear on the statement. I went to my bank and asked about it and the girl (she was a trainee and said she wasnt sure) said she thought that if they were pending transactions that went onto be cancelled that they wouldnt show up. Is it true that cancelled pending transactions that were deemed fraud would be cancelled and no record kept of the payments?
I really just want to move on from all this as I've already had to jump through so many hoops for the police but I really dont want the theif to get away with it (she has a history of these crimes) esp after all the stress this has caused me. But if the bank dont have the information, I dont really know what else I can do.
