Credit whilst on maternity leave

Hi,

I am wanting to buy a car as I'm a new mum and finding we need one - I earn a good salary and can certainly afford it but currently on statutory maternity pay - could I still get credit?

My partner doesn't have a great credit rating as he had a ccj (settled in May 2015) and has never had a credit card or store card or any sort of credit so I'm assuming he wouldn't be able to get credit for a car?

Any advice would be welcomed :)

Thanks

Haven’t tried with a car, but I moved house and got a mortgage while on maternity leave. They took my normal salary as the basis of the borrowing.
