Tax-free childcare scheme

Hi all. Not sure if this is the right place to post but here goes...
So several friends of ours have advised us to open up a childcare account via Childcare Choices to start saving for (and gain the basic-rate tax back on what we save) childcare costs via the Tax-Free Childcare government scheme. However, we haven't even had our baby yet- it's due in January but some friends told us we could open the account now and start saving but I can't find anything online that confirms this. Does anybody know for sure that you can do this? They did it almost 3 years ago so it could have changed since then. Thanks

no I’m sure you can’t. I had to open the account in the name of my child (with birthdate etc) and it only allowed me to open it a month before I returned off maternity leave. (I was planning on doing the same as you!)
