letters from Barclaycard for someone who doesn't live here?

We have been in our address for 12 years. The people before us were here for 18 years.

In the last 18 months we've been getting letters every so often from Barclaycard addressed to for example Mr A Jones. We're not Jones. The people before us weren't Jones. Neighbours aren't Jones. And it's not like our address is "12 Pink Street" and there's also 12 Pink Avenue and 12 Pink Terrace locally either.

Phoned Barclaycard to raise this as a potential fraud issue and got precisely nowhere because obviously i'm not Mr A Jones so they can't speak to me about his account. Asked if they weren't interested that they had the wrong address for their customer and they weren't. Just send letters back to them marked not at this address. Anything else I can do?

I wouldn’t be too concerned. Maybe check your credit report just to check there aren’t any nasties hiding on there, but that would be a precaution.

Just keep sending it back with addressee not known at this address. We went through similar, even got parcels for a lady that I asked round the village about and no one had ever heard of. Thankfully it seems to have stopped, I think she must have put her wrong postcode down on something.

Don't bother with Barclaycard/Barclays. We used to get post for a previous tenant who hadn't lived at the address for years. They refused to speak to me telling me to return post, until I pointed out that my 18 months of Return to Sender clearly didn't work and if they didn't stop sending them I'd register a complaint for harassment or something.

The statements promptly stopped coming through.

I don't think it's statements/bills - it's not a regular every quarter or month thing. More like marketing material or "information about your account". Mr A Jones probably is like us and receives his statements electronically.

I just think it's a bit odd that Barclaycard are more than happy to extend credit when they don't know where the customer lives.

@FleurDelacoeur if it's marketing material then there should be some kind of opt out on it. At worst a pre-filled response form?

Just send it back with a request to remove 'you' (him) from the mailing list. They are legally obliged to comply with a received request.
