Time for renewal again! How tedious! Which one is your ISP please? I am only after faster broadband unlimited usage and free calls any time. BT is very sneaky. They say the package comes with weekend call and hit user with £6 and if user wants any time calls, that would be £7.50 on top! The speed is up to 17mb and they frighten me with estimated speed of 1.5mb (they claim! To push me to a higher band perhaps!) Is this speed still allowed? Thought the government stipulates that there is a basic speed requirement. Surely, not 1.5mb.. Any suggestions and experience to share please? All suggestions welcome!

Plusnet - Fibre unlimited with unlimited phone calls anytime to mobiles and landlines
Estimated line speed:
72Mb (This may vary between 54Mb and 72Mb) - Checked on 2017-08-31 22:34:10
Current line speed:
38.6 Mb
£42 a month.
We have no issues with 4 people streaming at the same time and speed is consistent.
We pay the extra for the line rental and unlimited calls as we don't do contract mobiles. Very little point as we rarely leave the house and when we do it's all together due to my MH.

Virgin Media,

100mb/sec fibre optic, £32 a month. Pretty consistent, almost never down.

Only issue we have is they don't like it if you connect your own router and will block it, even though it's allowed.

Thank you. That's a lightning speed! LOL!

For 4 people, it's very good. Thank you for the info!

Vodafone super fast £28 per month unlimited, includes line rental but not call package as we all use our mobiles now and never use landline. I think it's currently £25 for new customers.

I’ve just renewed so leaving Sky and moving to Virgin with up to 100mb speed. It includes line rental and weekend calls but like others we usually use our mobiles. It’s costing 67p a month more than our slow connection with Sky! Works out at £20.67 a month as the deal gets you £100 cashback. It’s mentioned by Martin Lewis on Moneysavingexpert just now with various other offers.

I've been with The Phone Co-op for a couple of years. Superfast bband from £28 pm (add call package). Minimum guaranteed speed 35.0Mbps. Very good customer service & tech support which counts for a lot given the crap we've had from other companies.

Member336569 · 12/05/2018 15:58

flintyminty: That speed is exactly what I want. BT has some very nasty speed 17 and some very fast 76 or 56. I only want 35. Just my cup of tea! (talking of which, I need one now). Lovely information. Will certainly have a look! Thank you very much!

Glad to be of help. We don't need superdooper fast, but good service at reasonable price. The Phone Co-op is also ethical if that's your cup of tea. Mmm cup of tea Brew

I want to find out if you get charged for 1571 or 1471 please? I looked at the standard one which charges £22 and then go up after 12 months. There it says 1571 is not free. Ouch!

We have unlimited fibre (up to 38Mb and getting around 32Mb) with evening and weekend calls from Plusnet for £27 per month. There's an offer for £24.99 per month at the moment for new customers. There's only 2 of us but we both have phones, tablets and laptops. DP is a big gamer (PS4 plus a monster gaming computer) and we stream all our TV. We have no problems

flintyminty · 12/05/2018 17:15

Yes, 1571 and caller ID are additional charges. Think this was same when I was with BT.

Member336569 · 13/05/2018 06:56

sillyswimmer: I was promised £29 by plusnet for all inclusive calls and broadband, but we don't do games. I think I will stick with them.

Thank you flintyminty for the clarification. Hope this hunt is over.
