How would you spend your lottery winnings?

Was watching tv and the lottery ad came on, just been wondering had I won a million how would I spend it.

So my question is how would you spend your lottery winnings and would you help anyone out family/friends?

Dunno. Possibly I would purchase two houses, not necessarily big or luxurious, just the type that can be rented out relatively easily, outside London. Rent out for steady income. In fact one of them can also be abroad, if I feel brave enough.

Invest in dd's education by taking her to a world cruise once or twice. Supplement her education with other enriching extra curricular activities; such as if she's studying coral reefs, i'd be taking her to see coral reefs, for a history subject we'd visit the actual place the historical events took place. I'd take her abroad for foreign language practice every summer. Things like that.

I'd invest in our health a lot more by reducing stress levels in our lives as much as I can and eating a lot better than we do currently. I would hire personal trainer who comes to my home to pick us up and to motivate and organise fitness exercises outside (or in our home). I can't see myself going to a gym otherwise.

I don't have very close relatives and I wouldn't care about the existing distant relatives much. I wouldn't even tell them about my winnings. In fact I would actively keep it secret from everyone, relative or not. Only would tell to people who need to know in professional capacity such as people who help with legal and investment side.

I'd donate some handsome amount, to a couple of charities too.

2- getting a dog (not ideal for renting atm)
3- quitting job
4- taking ds on his dream holiday

After that it’d pretty much be the same as we are now

Quit job and find a new one with no stress, pay off mortgage and get big extension, pay off mum and dad mortgage and help my sister buy a bigger house. That would do me.

Invest the majority of the money in order to provide a steady life long income
DH and I would quit our jobs
Pay off mortgage, complete all updating of house and maybe extend house a bit (doubt we would move, like the area we are in and there is absolutely no houses on the market within 1/2 mile radius of ours)
Buy a camper van of some sort
If there was enough monthly income from investments I'd probably pay for DD to have a private education
Enjoy life lots of travel, outdoor sports etc.

Buy the house im actually buying but mortgage free.
Buy my siblings nice(r) houses and new cars.
Send my Parents on a cruise. They love cruising.
Buy a holiday home in the south of france.
Buy a holiday home in the highlands of scotland.
Buy a new car.
Divorce my husband.

Would i be able to divorce my husband before cashing in the ticket? Hmm

Pack in work, buy a house but not too big cos I'm knocking on a bit. Buy a flash car. Give children and close rels some money, give friends some, give some to charities, and enjoy not worrying about money ever again.

I would probably continue with my career as I love the sense of achievement and fulfilment it gives me, but first I would take a year’s sabattical to travel. I would upgrade my house to a larger one, with a fabulous kitchen and bathroom, and go on fancier holidays and stay in nicer hotels etc. I would buy houses for my siblings. And donate some too.

I would buy a nice house mortgage free, put some money away for the kids education some in their savings account for when they are old enough to use it, invest in a business that would give me enough monthly income travel the world and give some to charities, My dh probably would want to help his family out too, New car for me and never worry about bills again, I would give back to the those in need.

Retire.
Plan lots of holidays around dds school holidays.
Buy a nice big house.
Cleaner.
Lovely cars for every occasion.
This is dependent on how much I’d won of course.
I’ve obviously never thought about it 🤔

Buy an open top sporty type car for summer days! I’ve never had one or driven one and only travelled in a car with the top down once ( and I’m getting on a bit now ... )

Just a million? Or this weeks Euromillion jackpot?

If the former, then we would buy a detached house with a big drive and install a turning circle because trying to reverse onto the roads locally is a frigging nightmare.
My mother would be bought a completely level bungalow with no steps up to the front door.
I would learn to drive and would buy a comfortable, disabled friendly car (my mum has difficult walking and moving in general).
I would invest a serious amount of money for my sisters children, to allow for education expenses including uniform/ extra curricular activities/ trips and specialist education if needed.
I'd pay off all the local charities vets bills- and advance a sum to all of them for the treatment of animals in particular circumstances.
The rest would go into investments to allow for a decent pension to be drawn after I turn 55.

If the latter, well, there's a million things I would want to do.

Dh and I have always said, 1 million is an 'awkward' amount of money to win.

I mean, I still wouldn't turn it down Grin - but if you win £200k then you sort your own family out and maybe buy parents/siblings a nice gift or treat. If you won £5m then you can go about buying your parents/siblings/neighbours dog a house and setting them up for life, as well as investing for your kids.

But £1m isn't really enough imo to buy multiple new houses or give massive cash gifts away, if you want to spend a few hundred k on your own house and have a few of your own dc to save for - yet to give a sibling say £30k out of £1m seems incredibly mean!

So yes, awkward amount imo - but I repeat (in case anyone is listening) it's a problem I'd still prefer to have than not!

Buy a 4 bedroom house where i live (bedroom for each of us plus one spare room for guests), with a pool. Buy a 'normal' car (nothing flash, big enough for our dog and camping gear). Save the rest for the future: uni fees, house deposit for ds, visit family abroad.

Invest heavily in a donkey sanctuary.

Hmm. £1million.

  1. Clear debt
  2. Buy a new flat outright in the part of London we want to be in (money wouldn’t stretch to a house!) Rent out our current place for income.
  3. £100k in gifts - probably £30k to each set of parents as cushioning money plus £30k to my sister for a deposit.
  4. £50k each into our own accounts to do what we liked with - I’d probably clear a couple of close friends’ credit cards and have an amazing shopping spree. Rest into my personal savings for my own rainy day fund.
  5. Have a totally luxurious honeymoon.
  6. Remainder - probably about £250k? Into joint savings/investments etc

Anyone fancy giving me some cash? Grin

TBH in current situation if I won millions I'd see my family all right and then give most of it away secretly. I'd set up a secret bank account called 'magic fairy dust' or something. Then, at my discretion, I'd give money to those really desperate for it. Not the begging letter types but say local groups in need of a wee boost for new sports kit, new roof for the community hall, a new car for someone at the end of their tether with endless bills, trying to hold down two jobs and feed their kids, anything deserving where folk have been shafted by the system.

Buy a house. Nice cars. Learn to drive. New clothes for all of us. Dream holiday. Put money away for uni for kids. Pay off some debts. Pay off parents debts. Treat sister/Pay for her uni. Buy FIL house in another country -only about 30,000. Save the rest

Buy a bigger house but in the same area.
Go on one super first class holiday.
Give a fair bit to charity.
Invest the rest so can be comfortable and treat family and friends on a regular occasion.

However, I don't think I would tell anyone as I do think it can change the dynamic of your friendships.

First thing I'd do is take my DH, DC, parents, siblings and other close relatives on a massive sun holiday where we can all relax, celebrate and reflect. All depends on the amount but my perfect scenario would go like this:
I'd buy a fabulous new house mortgage free, nice car each for DH and I, holiday home in the sun, invest some for DC future. Obviously give up jobs!

The rest would be given away - I would ensure both sets of parents and siblings became millionaires and I'd give lots away to extended family and to close friends. I think most of the pleasure of the win would be in telling loved ones their financial pressures are over!
After that I'd love to do things like anonymously buy people's meals in restaurants and settle MOT bills etc. Give loads to charity.
