New bike insurance while awaiting a pay out

So our motorbike was stolen a couple of weeks ago. The claim is ongoing, they want to give the police a few weeks to find it (haha as if). The no claims is protected so we'll still have it after the claim is settled.

In the meantime we've ordered a new bike because even if the insurance paid out nothing, we need a new bike to commute. It arrives tomorrow.

However, we're struggling to get insurance with anyone other than our current provider because our no claims is still being used by the unsettled claim.

Our current insurer is quoting £1k more than this year! And £400 more than the next best. (Nothing like being charged for being a victim of crime.)

I'm not that familiar with vehicle insurance. Never owned one until recently and DH has previously sorted it. My only bright idea was to go with the current insurer, then when the claim is settled cancel it and go to the next best. This may well be within the cooling off period.

Anyone have any better ideas?

Can you not do a change of vehicle or additional vehicle on the current policy?

No the current policy comes to an end when there is a total loss of vehicle.

Oh ok. My insurance doesn't work like that.
