Bank taking money from other accounts

Can they do that without your say so??

If there is a current account and savings account at the same bank. If the current account is slightly overdrawn, can the bank transfer money from one account to the other does anyone know?

I don't know, but mine doesn't do that and I kind of wish they would! Would save me from getting charges for being overdrawn on my current account if they could transfer money from my savings to cover it.
Have never heard of any bank doing it though.

Yes they can. It happened to my friend who banked with the Abbey National. She had quite a large savings account and was very overdrawn in her current account so they just transferred the money over. They can only do it if both accounts are with the same bank.

I could be wrong but I didn't think that they could do this without your permission.

They did it with mine years ago before. Until they ran out of money in the savings account and wrote me a snotty letter. Was a bit upset to say the least but I was in financial sh*t anyway at the time and it seemed the least of my problems. When I think about it now I'm quite shocked.

I know, barclays have taken all my friends wages (that she had put into her savings account) to pay off the rest of her overdraft that they suddenly just took from under her for no reason. She's 8 mths pregnant, no money for food now for the month or that bit of the rent.

Barclays have turned really nasty to their customers at the moment, have heard loads of bad comments about them.
