Company refusing to acknowledge it is their faulty fitting that has caused the damage and so won't replace or repair it

I had a fireplace fitted last Oct.

Since the day it was fitted we have had quite a few problems with it. Most of them have been sorted but slowly over the months.

However, the metal trim they fitted around the hole fell off in Feb when the fire was lit. When it fell it it damged the granite hearth.

The company are now saying it is impossible for a metal trim to cause this chip in the hearth. Even though when the fitter came he said he looked like it had caused it as the mark on the metal was the same size and lined up with the damage to the hearth.

The fitter removed the metal trim and siad it would be replaced wihtin a week. That was in Feb and still no replacement.

I wathced this trim fall off and know the damage wasn't there before. They are saying in an email today it is impossible for the damgae to have ocurred and we will have to pay for any replacement or repair BUT it was their faulty fitting of the trim that caused it. I AM NOT A LIAR

So before I replay firstly I want to calm down and secondly I would like an advice as regards my position legally.

TBH the company have provided a very disappointing service in other respects too and I already had to compalin to trading standards about soemthing else.
