Hello, has anyone actually received this in.the past couple of months? I applied last week. I phoned British Gas yesterday to see if they could give me an idea of the progress of my online application. All he could say was I might get it. No answer to when or confirmation! I have a big bill to pay too! Help?

DD1 was told she qualified for it, but when she rang, they couldn't tell her when it would be applied to her bill. She also has big bills and this would give her breathing space. If she doesn't hear soon, I advised her to think about speaking to the ombudsman. They are taking the piss.

Usually feb or march time you get it. I applied in september and still waiting

Veronicat · 25/01/2018 20:16

I've applied and they say if you get it it will be before the end of March . They are currently rolling payments out.

Usually end of March, no point in going to the ombudsman, it’s not the utility company’s fault that people can’t pay their bills ffs

Well, no, but they do set their tariffs higher and higher whilst sitting on millions if not billions of profit. It's part of their operating conditions that they assist those less fortunate than others who are literally freezing to death every winter (Tens of thousands every year killed by being cold, how is that not a huge scandal?)

There are pretty strict conditions for getting the grant. If it is applied at the same time every year, they could just tell customers that so they don't spend ages chasing it and panicking their electric is about to go off. Instead they are vague about when to expect it which isn't helpful to anyone.

Also, is it just me or is paying it after winter has finished a bit daft? Okay if you're getting bills it will pay off the outstanding balance, but if you're on prepayment you need it in November really.

Veronicat · 27/01/2018 07:20

I agree Roomba November would be better.
I've had to spend double on my pre payment meter to try and keep this house warm over winter. And don't get me started on the price of pellets for the boiler. Luckily I ordered a big load of coal over Christmas which we are eking out.
