I sent off my 1st letter asking for the money (I have kept all my statements) 9 days ago and got a reply today asking me to send a breakdown of the charges. I was rather surprised they replyed so quick. I've got a phone number for the 'service quality team' if you want it.
Sorry I can't be more help.

Thanks will wait a bit longer and see, but the phone number would be helpful.

My dh has had to issue proceedings and they just filed an acknowledgment of service so he can't just enter a judgment against them. Whether or not they actually defend the claim remains to be seen, but I'm really surprised. Dh's ex got £1400 from Abbey National after issuing a claim form and she is no longer their customer whereas we have a mortgage and bank accounts with HSBC so you think they would be more interested in keeping us happy!! I think it will require perseverence, but will let you know how dh gets on...

I constently get the same from the Halifax. The which website and watchdog and martinsmonytips have some really good help for these issues and info on what to say to the bank when you contact them. It is a pain in the arse but at least we have a chance now. A few years ago they would baisically tell you to go whistle....damn greedy so and so's.

I want to claim from HSBC but have been putting it off for ages because I am scared... Will I have to open a new bank account???

please, as a winner, not with HSBC but LTSB, who are also bitches to deal with. Don't enter their game. play yours. They send stupid letters, you ignore, stick to the procedure, take them to court if needs be, they probably won't do squat and pay up before, they are trying to put you off, scare you . don't let them. be in control, go after what is yours.
