Emergency electric almost gone

Mummypigoinkk · 04/11/2017 22:49

So my electric has been on the emergency and I thought it would last until Monday, I’m on 16 pence and I still need to get through tonight and Sunday, I’m not begging I’m just asking if anyone knows if it will cut off as soon as the balance reaches 0 or is it true that some meters don’t cut off on an evening or Sunday? Can someone please help me out ASAP, thank you :)

Hope the things sell on Gumtree. Very short term can you cook tomorrow for Monday, just in case you can’t top it up before it goes.

Smeaton

Look I’m not stupid; I know you’re probably only a Nigerian archduke or Earl. But I’d rather lose money than run the risk of not helping a Nigerian prince in need of transferring money out of his country.

I’m selfless, altruistic and kind hearted. It’s just who I am.

I agree it won't go off overnight, having looked into this recently I'm sure they don't cut out at night. And I too have an electricity meter and understand the fear when you suddenly realise it's about to run out. In fact, the other week I realised mine only had 10p left and the kids were in bed so I couldn't go out to get more... when I googled how to get the emergency credit, it was an old MN thread that popped up on google and told me what to do! (take the key out and put it back in in case anyone's interested... )

Do you have a pawnbroker near you, and any gold/silver jewellery? Pawning stuff is a lot cheaper than Wonga or such like, especially if you can pay it back in a few days. Gold goes for more than silver, but even if you only have silver, a bracelet and a couple of necklaces would probably pawn for about £10, which would keep your meter fed.

(I have done this quite a lot.)

ReanimatedSGB · 05/11/2017 00:52

Otherwise places like Cash Converters do a buyback scheme and they will accept all sorts of things - phone, laptop, musical instrument, camera etc. You get cash for your whatever, and 28 days to redeem it, with an interest charge that is not too awful - and, unlike payday loans, the worst that can happen is you don't get the item back.

MyKingdomForBrie · 05/11/2017 00:52

Depends on the age of the meter, BG newer meters won’t cut out between 6pm and 9am or all day Sunday for those installed 2008 or later. Hope yours is one of those OP.

You’ll have to repay the emergency credit and any used overnight when you top up though.

Hi there,

Just our usual reminder on threads like these that while Mumsnet is a huge source of support for many of us, we would't want anyone to give more of themselves, emotionally or financially, than they can afford to lose.

And that's not to say we have concerns about this particular OP; it's just a reminder.

I’m not sure if people on MN can actually read???

So rude. Many people have tried to help by answering your question.

dissapointedafternoon · 05/11/2017 17:16

I will pay for it how much do you need?
No need to judge educate on funding etc people.
Just answer the question or say nothing.

Breezy1985 · 05/11/2017 17:20

I'm with BG ify emergency credit runs out after 6pm on a Friday night it won't cut off till 9am on the Monday morning.

expatinscotland · 05/11/2017 17:22

And score! Someone's offered money! Had no idea they don't cut out at night or on weekends, mine always does. We're with SSE.

sinceyouask · 05/11/2017 17:24

My electric would not cut off til either 9 or 10am tomorrow (can't remember which) if the emergency ran out now. I'm with EDF.

PortiaCastis · 05/11/2017 17:26

No they'll cut it in the morning about 8or9am.
Are you getting cb or something tomorrow?

bimbobaggins · 05/11/2017 17:31

Favourite if you’re dishing out free money I’ll ping you my details Wink

dissapointedafternoon · 05/11/2017 17:33

It's not about scoring.
Shame on them if they are lying. It's not shame on anyone for helping, fuck sake.
That's money in a ziplock in my car for parking, you know? I can lose ten quid without being cold or in the dark. Jesus

calamityjam · 05/11/2017 17:39

Some people on here are fucking nasty. Op was only asking if her emergency credit would run out. We can all forget to top up every now and again if we are busy. She never asked for money, only advice. Stop being fucking horrible.

MyKingdomForBrie · 05/11/2017 17:46

A lot of people were helpful, I googled it just to answer op, so I’m not sure why all the self righteous generalised ‘you’re all horrible’ comments. Not sure what it was we weren’t reading OP?

RunningOutOfCharge · 05/11/2017 18:53

A lot are weary

Not nasty

Just weary of the threads like this at this time of year. They always happen. Always

Mummypigoinkk · 06/11/2017 17:00

I’m feeling stressed reading some of these replies, I wasn’t asking for money, if money was offered I wasn’t going to take it, yeah thank you to the people who helped, but to the people who are so quick to jump and judge, your replies we’re unwanted and uneccicary, bored busy body’s with nothing else better to do

OP posts:
Mummypigoinkk · 06/11/2017 17:03

And just to let those who are wondering know, my electric lasted till today and I topped up, thank you again to those that were kind enough to be helpful :)

Waterfeature · 06/11/2017 17:04

Money saving expert is probably a better place for you to get advice than on here 😬

Mummypigoinkk · 06/11/2017 17:04

Hardly being rude, I stated that I wasn’t begging or asking for money yet people still commented like I were.

OP posts:
AdoraBell · 06/11/2017 17:16

I'm glad it lasted until today OP, can you put some money away, just what you would need to top up, for any future emergency? Say a fiver behind the tea bags, or similar?

gamerchick · 06/11/2017 17:20

Ah are you new?
