anyone know how to work out what your gross salary needs to be in order to earn net £17k? and same q to earn net £21,250? As soon as dh says the word "marginal" I get all arsey and defensive (cos I don;t want to admit how inumerate I am...). I need a kind mner to hold my hand and explain...

www.freelanceuk.com/money/payslip_calculator.shtml does this help? try googling "gross to net pay"

suejonez · 02/04/2007 22:22

yes but it would take a little while and I'd have to ask loads of personal questions! My guess would be that you around 25% tax and NI so your gross would be roughly £24k but thats very rough. Think on the same basis the higher one would be about £28k.

There may be a website somewhere which could help...

opps sorry thats the wrong way round, will try again - duh!

Assuming you have a standard tax code I make 17k net, 22,620 gross and 21250 = 32250 ish. Haven't done calculations - just looked it up on a table and rounded up though.

Soapbox · 02/04/2007 22:25

Approx : £28950 - £21250
£22550 - £17000

that is based on the normal tax code.

Millarkie · 02/04/2007 22:27

I may have the 21250 figure wrong, just realised I had to use a different table and it gives expense to employer (ie includes employers NI) rather than just the gross salary.

thanks. I've just realised I can apply the various tables on line that are there to calculate nanny tax. it's not as if there's a special nanny tax rate....(and i was looking at these anyway cos that's what the question's about. derrrr)
