Tax credit renewal

Wonder if anyone can help as i find tax credit so confusing.

I renewed in may, it was auto renewal, then in august i made a childcare change which payments dropped. I then received a "provisional award". What does this mean? Does it have to be finalised or will this be done next April?
Many thanks

The way I understand it is that you have to confirm the amount childcare costs, as in go online and confirm, or give them a call. Then it should change to your actual award, not a provisional award.

Thanks for replying.
I think i have done that online as childcare is now zero.
Payments seem correct its just that the award says provisional

I have done a bit of research and it seems that it's normal, and basically they give you a provisional award when you declare a change in circs through the year, and while they do their checks they give you a provisional award then later on a final award.
