Debt Collector Letter - affect credit scoring?

I am SOOOO angry with British Gas! Got a letter from a debt collection agency giving me til xxx to pay an outstanding debt. Turns out it was the final invoice before we switched to NPower. We never got this final invoice but surely we should have a reminder or 2 before it goes to a debt collector???

Anyway, putting my anger aside.....dh is worried that the fact it was referred to a debt collection agency may mean our credit scoring is affected? I paid it as soon as I opened it yesterday, before taking my coat off! But how do we find out if our credit scoring has been affected?

Need to contact someone like Experian and pay for a credit report. I think that theres bout 3 different agencies that deal with credit reports so you might have to write to all three because one might not show somehting that another does.

Thanks Does anyone know if it likely to have affected our credit scoring? Will check these reports out but just trying to find out what's likely to have happened.
