Hi,

I am the beneficiary of an inheritance of money from Australia. The solicitor has suggested sending me a cheque in $. I am concerned that my bank will take a large commission to change into £.

Has anyone had any similar experience or advice to give? I have heard PayPal is better way to receive the money but I'm not sure.

Thanks

Contact Rational FX in London, I use them as they offer better exchange rates than the banks.

Paypal will still charge you for changing to £'s though, but it is quick.

We just put foreign cheques directly into our UK bank account. It takes anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks to clear. You pay the exchange rate on the day it clears plus a small fee £20 I think.
