When should we inform the Tax Credits people...

That Dh has a new job?
He starts on Friday, should I phone them up before Friday and tell them or wait until he has his contract so we know exactly how much his salary will be?

I feel that I want to wait until he has his contract so that I can safely say he will earn X amount for 07-08, don't want to guess incase I'm wrong, but at the same time don't want to inform them too late incase we end up owing them money.
I don't think his annual income will be that much more than his old one by the way.

What do you think?

i rang them to change my income details on friday and was informed that they cannot change any details at the moment because of year end, i have to wait until after April 6th and then call them with my predicted annual income for 07/08

EllieK · 26/03/2007 23:34

ooh, and they can't change details normally until the day it actually changes (so for you would be friday), so you can't be too efficient, their systems can't cope

mumfor1standfinaltime · 26/03/2007 23:35

I personally would wait a few days until you know what it will be.
Leave it until middle of the following week. As if they will print any paperwork on a Friday anyway!

mumfor1standfinaltime · 26/03/2007 23:35

Dh has just had a payrise, I am not telling them until new tax year (April).

EllieK · 26/03/2007 23:45

i was quite annoyed when they told me they can't take my new income details yet, even tho they changed last week, but i guess it could work in your favour

Linnet · 26/03/2007 23:55

thanks, I'll wait then and tell them once I know for definite what he'll be getting paid. We don't get the Working tax payment anymore, which was paid through dh's wages at the beginning, so I don't suppose a few days will make a difference if they don't know who is new employer is.

Over estimate in case of overtime...saves being over paid.

nikkie · 27/03/2007 19:42

I earned less this year than I expected to but have been told I can't change it til next week.

snowwonder · 27/03/2007 19:44

yes they cant put future changes in it has to have happened, like when dd nursery goes up i have to ring them on the day

nikkie · 27/03/2007 20:02

Yeah when dd2 was at playschool I used to have to ring in the school hols rather than say I won't be paying from X-Y
