JURY SERVICE!!! Need help getting a deferral/excusal for dh...

Ok

dh has been summoned for Jury Service.

However he is self-employed and the sole wage earner for our household. He cannot afford the time off work at all.

Is this a justifiable (in the eyes of the jury officer) reason to be excused or not?

Any help appreciated thanks.

Probably not TBH my husbands friend is self employed but he still had to do it. It's worth writing a letter and trying though.

All you can do is put it all in writing and send it off, and then see what they come back with. They are much stricter regards deferring/excusing people though.

Are there are benefits, etc. he can claim during this time?

My dh was not excused on these grounds.
Lost him a contract.

He's not allowed to be on a jury if he knows the person on trial. Maybe he could pretend - then he'll be sent home.

My dh got jury service and was sworn in. A child was giving evidence and it turned out she was at the same school as our children. Dh got sent straight home - wasn't even allowed to say goodbye to fellow jurors.

arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

Yes - I am writing the reason for a deferral in the space provided. SUCH a nightmare - dh says it will be cheaper to pay the £1000 fine than lose 2 weeks work!

ARGHHHHHHHHHH!!!! again - sorry, just SO frustrated ....

oh btw - thanks ladies (mustn't forget my manners now - even in mild state of rage!)
