Is there a website that I can find out what or where a lawyer is based and their qualifications?

Yes there is but I don't know what it is. If you haven't had the answer by the time dh gets home I will ask him (he is a solicitor so will know)

the law society for england and wales here

Yes. Google the law society website, then use the solicitor search function. Should show firm and year of qualification.
