Is it worth claiming child tax credits?

I am a full-time mother on income support and I am in the process of applying for child tax credits. However, I am not really sure if it is worth it because the money I receive will be treated as an income and therefore reducing my income support payments. Also I think I will have to make a contribution towards my housing.

I would be grateful for any advice.

If you have children and claiming Income support, child tax credits are now paid instead of a the child element with your income support. You will get IS for yourself and CTC for the children so in your circumstances it is worth claiming them. The job centre should be able to put a claim in for you if you need it done quickly,
