Tax Credits claim made this May

Sorry if I am asking a silly question but does anyone know, if I start a claim in May (after baby born) would this be based on 6 April 2016 - 5 April 2017 earnings, as a new tax year has started?

Both self employed so will take some doing to calculate, only just doing 2015-2016 returns (and may not qualify for anything) Thanks! :-)

Yes I think so, based on previous tax year so 2016-2017. Not sure if it's different if you're self employed tho

Thank you Lorna

yes it will be based on 2016-17. if it is your first child the threshold is around £26k without childcare costs. If your joint income is over this but likely to drop for the tax year 2017-18 then you can ask for a recalculation based on your new estimated income.
