Car insurance renewal while accident investigation is ongoing

Last month I was in an accident in DH's car, for which we have not made a claim, but the other party is claiming. We have also not admitted responsibility (as I do not believe it to have been my fault).

Anyway....DH's car insurance is due for renewal at the beginning of March. He had a renewal letter from them and it is quoting for zero year's no claim bonus (would be 2 if this incident were not considered our fault). We haven't been happy with the insurers during the ongoing investigation and want to change insurers.

Is it possible to have NCB re-instated and then transferred to a new insurer and have it back-dated, as I doubt the investigation will be completed prior to the renewal happening.

No - sorry. It would be just like getting breathalysed and trying to say you were conviction free before the case went to court. You have to disclose all relevant facts.
A friend recently had her renewal refused because she hadn't told her insurance co she's had 2 speeding tickets. It hadn't occurred to her that they needed to know.
