Hi, with credit scores it can depend on the individual company, as they all can have different. You can apply for a credit card if it is your partner works just make sure you are advising that you are a 'house person' or equivalent rather than 'unemployed' as that can be immediate decline.
Your credit rating/ score may also influence the APR you get, again depending on the company.
