My husband and I dont get paid until the 31st and have £12 left. No money for food or for petrol to get us to work. bank wont give me an overdraft or loan as have poor credit rating. My DD doesnt have enough nappies to last us til then either. Feel like a total failure and really dont know where to turn to. Cant believe I have screwed up this bably. DH blaming me and discussing it just turning into a slagging match. Any advice please??

Could you get a crisis loan from the council or something? Or do you have any family of friends you could ask?
Sorry not much help, hope you can work something out.

JackieNo · 23/01/2007 13:08

Crisis loan from your social security office, you and dp will have to go, take 2 forms of evidence for yourself and him and you bank statements showing the £0 balances. Or borrow from friends?

charliecat · 23/01/2007 13:11

Are you getting child benefit and tax credits?

lulumama · 23/01/2007 13:12

january is such a hard month

if you can carboot stuff, that is quicker than getting money for selling on ebay

i know places , second hand book shops, who will buy books , that might be worth looking at

can you babysit for people, friend, familys, neighbours , to earn a bit of cash?

DO NOT go down the route of borrowing from the sort of lender that encourages people with CCJs or poor credit to borrow..the interest can be absolutely crippling.....

credit union?

i would go to CAB pronto, they can point you in the right direction and their advice is free

or as has been suggested, borrow from friends and family if you can

make a list of what you need

nappies, bread, milk, basics..

DizzyBint · 23/01/2007 13:13

in th elong term you need to both sit down and do a proper budget. look at your total incomings, outgoings and work out what you have left. otherwise this will keep happening.

in the mean time-
anything you can sell?
have you already looked into a crisis loan?
your HV may be able to help if you are low on things like nappies, milk etc.
any family or friends who you can go and see for a meal? or better still, who will lend you some money?

Cappuccino · 23/01/2007 13:18

in the short term - how much as a minimum do you need to get you to work?

how much are the cheapest nappies you can buy?

with £12 and really frugal shopping you could probably get through a week in terms of food but I don't know what your other outgoings are

Cappuccino · 23/01/2007 13:19

I have a spreadsheet that I've sent to a few people on the Debt Free 2007 thread that I could send you if you wanted to cat me, that should help you sort out a better long-term budget

kirstygem · 23/01/2007 14:29

£12 could just about do for food but need at least £25 for petrol for me and DH to get to work. Really dont want to ask family for loan as really embarassed and ashamed that have got myself into this stupid mess.
TRying to sell stuff on here but no one seems to be interested.
Cappucino please could you send me that spread sheet.

I think if youve got family that can borrow from them admitting you have ballsed up, borrowing money for petrol and nappys and using up the stuff in the freezer is the way to go. You can pay them back when you get paid and be extra careful to make sure it doesnt happen again!
