Housing benefit online calculator

It must be wrong :S

I'm a single parent of one

It says my "applicable amount" is 684.18 per month.

That seems like a crazy amount? I'm in NI.

It depends what the local housing auhtority rate is for your area. I'm in NI too and for a two bed property in my area as a single parent on income support the rate is 93.10 per week.

VioletRoller · 23/05/2016 16:21

Weekly it says 157.45

I wonder why there is so much difference?

Does that actually mean I can start renting something for about 500 odds in my area?? Instead of moving away. It seems too good to be true.

Are rents particularly high in your area? How much would a two bed place be?

MrsSpecter · 23/05/2016 16:26

It does sound really high. I would call your local housing office and check if its right.

VioletRoller · 23/05/2016 16:26

Are you using the online benefit calculator?

On the LMA website it says 111.57 per week.

This is confusing me, Im afraid of making a mistake and getting in to debt before I even get on my feet. Ha

I used the entitled to calculator. But its the same as what i actually get in my housing benefit so seems accurate.

MrsSpecter · 23/05/2016 16:31

111.57 sounds more realistic.

VioletRoller · 23/05/2016 16:32

I'll have to give them a call when I get credit but I always feel like a scrounger when I ask for advice on stuff like this. Im getting refunded stuff from uni which will cover (hopefully) a deposit. :) Deffo need to find out which amount is true

OP posts:
MrsSpecter · 23/05/2016 16:33

Youre not a scrounger! Loads of people get housing benefit.

Try the entitled to or turn 2 us website. Ive found them both to be accurate for me.

VioletRoller · 23/05/2016 16:35

The rent here is mostly 550-650. I keep checking estate agents for cheaper

VioletRoller · 23/05/2016 16:36

Will give them a look now. Thanks so much x

MrsSpecter · 23/05/2016 16:39

No problem. Hope you get sorted.

Neffi · 23/05/2016 17:19

157.45 pw is 682ish pm (weekly to monthly is x52 then /12)

Your "applicable amount", if you are privately renting, will be the Local Housing Allowance for your area which will be towards the lower end of average rents. The LA website should have the amounts somewhere.

VioletRoller · 23/05/2016 17:24

Turn2us online calculator says 92.44

That's 369 a month. There's nothing around here that's close to that.

I dunno which one is the right one. Aaaaa. Been going google crazy

OP posts:
VioletRoller · 23/05/2016 17:35

Thanks Neffi.

Online housing benefits calculator gibes me 157.45 p/w

One LHA website where you search your post code gives me 111.57

Another one for my city is 92.44

As is the turn2us

If I move really far away Ill be stuck in a flat alone on benefits for years. The thought of it really upsets me

OP posts:
MrsSpecter · 23/05/2016 18:25

Where are you living now violet? With family or a partner?

Neffi · 23/05/2016 18:27

I'd be inclined to go with what your local LA says on the website but a phone call to check will be the only way to know for sure.

for example
