Child Tax Credit? confused!

meatliqour · 24/02/2016 19:14

Can someone help me.

If I don't work the required 16hrs a week, but my DC does to a registered childminder, am eligible for child tax credit but not working tax credit?

Also .... If I don't work at all, am I eligible for child tax credit? (Obviously not working tax credit)

Thanks

You don't need to be working to get child tax credits

You can't claim for the childcare costs unless you're working 16+ hours.

You need to be working over 16 hours to get working tax credits and to qualify for the childcare element of working tax credits. I think this may be changing once Universal credit is phased in as I think you will be able to claim help with childcare if you work less hours.
