personal pension payments and Tax Credits

Do personal self invested pension payments get taken off income for the purposes of tax credits and also how is the tax credited back? Thanks

tax credit purposes - yes, it is you taxable income which is after the pension contribution

tax credit - the SIPP should reclaim from HMRC
