Blu

This is on teh Guardian site atm:

... was it you who said you knew of a good removals firm in South London?

Yup. They were fantastic.

www.oisremovals.co.uk/

The only downside was that my buyers money didnt transfer until gone 3:30 so I had to pay quite a lot on top. Worth getting a quote though.

Thanks Tinker - yes it probably was me who knew a good removals firm in S London - but sadly thier services were so good and prices so reasonable that they went out of business in March.

So dp got a right bunch of cowboys who now say they will do 3 trips in a Luton van. Not in a 7 house chain, I think!

Will check out your link, and have had a couple of helpful e mails, too.

No, that's copied from GU, the bit about "was it you.."

We hope to be moving next week as well and also haven't booked a van. Ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!

WHEELYbahhumBUG · 06/12/2006 15:12

we used these a few weeks ago - came in the cheapest of 3 quotes and had no complaints.

I used this company last time we moved and they were fab.

WHEELYbahhumBUG · 06/12/2006 15:15

Just realised where I'd heard of OIS removals from - one of our quotes was from them and they didn't even come out to see what we had which didn't fill me with confidence that the price wouldn't then change ! They came in the middle of the 3 quotes we had.

Reliable Removals - based in Essex but they do all over London. They have a website. I used them and a guy in my office used them last week. They're great. They pack as well if you want.

I've used Ward-Thomas removals 2ce and they have been excellent both times.
Based near Battersea Heliport I think

Blu, we used

Mortimers Removals Ltd
36 Eastbrook Road, Blackheath, London SE3 8BT

This was six years ago. They looked like the cast of Pirates of the Caribbean (minus Orlando Bloom) but were friendly, professional and not snooty about moving shedloads of books.
Absolutely nothing got broken.
As befits their somewhat low-tech approach they don't seem to have a web address...

My SIL was messed around royally by her vendor the year before that and Whitewoods of Eltham were real stars about that, finding her a revised slot with less than a week's notice.

God he owes you a big drink and a weekend pass-out at the very least for this

satine · 06/12/2006 19:07

The ultimate firm, as far as I know, is Abels - they pack everything and then unpack it to make your new house as close to your old one as possible (eg kitchen cupboards properly organised etc, clothes in wardrobes and drawers, books on bookshelves) and even stock your new fridge. But I've never dared get a quote from them!
Just imagine, though, you could walk out of your old house, go away for the night and then walk into your sorted, tidy new house. Not like when we move, living with piles of boxes for weeks!

Blu · 07/12/2006 13:20

Thank you all very much indeed - I was feeling faint with panic yesterday!

Many reputable companies were booked up, but I am now sorted - a recommendation from two MN-ers who e mailed me the details of Roberts and Denny - the man came round first thing this morning, was incredibly helpful, will do all the unscrewing from walls, unplumbing of appliances, construct beds before they leave new house, and all for a cheaper quote than when we moved 4 years ago - and much cheaper than dp's dodgy luton van merchants!

thank you MN!
