I think it's £6,000 in savings.

Shutthatdoor · 23/08/2015 18:44

What benefits are you on?

Bubblesinthesummer · 23/08/2015 18:45

If you are on DLA or PIP it isn't means tested.

ilovesprouts · 23/08/2015 18:49

i get a little bit of income support and i get pip carers allowence son gets dla

coolaschmoola · 23/08/2015 18:51

You need to declare it and then they will recalculate your Income Support if necessary.

Bubblesinthesummer · 23/08/2015 18:53

It wouldn't affect your sons DLA but it may do your others.

It is worth speaking to CAB as they would be able to point you into the right direction.

ilovesprouts · 23/08/2015 18:55

yeah i thought as much and i know i wont be able to have any benifits wen i get my final compensation but think i can still keep pip ca am i right ?

If your due a significant compensation payment seek legal advice. You may be able to put it in a trust fund.

Bubblesinthesummer · 23/08/2015 18:57

O'my a bit confused. Do you get ca aswell as PIP or just ca?

BerniceB · 23/08/2015 18:58

If you're going to get a sizeable payout you may want to speak to your solicitor about a personal injury trust so that your benefits won't be affected.

ilovesprouts · 23/08/2015 19:02

i get pip for my self and carers allowence wont get my big pay out just yet as it only been 2.6m so not sure wen big pay out will be? its just a interim payment of 7k i just got.

OP posts:
howtorebuild · 23/08/2015 19:04

I would speak to dwp then.

Bubblesinthesummer · 23/08/2015 19:11

Your PIP won't be effected but not sure about your carers allowance though.

ilovesprouts · 24/08/2015 09:57

also been told when i get my compo i will have to pay all my pip back

OP posts:
howtorebuild · 24/08/2015 10:05

Wow, so are you getting much for yourself in the end?

Shutthatdoor · 24/08/2015 10:27

Why will you have to pay your PIP back? PIP isn't means tested so a multi millionaire can apply and if eligible they are entitled to receive it.

howtorebuild · 24/08/2015 11:04

Yes, the Scottish lottery winners were in the papers for still claiming dla.

AndNowItsSeven · 24/08/2015 11:45

You won't have to pay pip back, carers neither will it forget your carers allowance as it is not income.

AndNowItsSeven · 24/08/2015 11:45

Affect not forget.

AndNowItsSeven · 24/08/2015 11:51

For £7k your income support will be reduced by £4 a week. First £6k ignored then reduced by £1 for every £250. That is the only thing that will be affected. Carers, dla , pip, tax credits will continue as normal.

ilovesprouts · 26/08/2015 13:29

wont be getting my final payout yet not a clue how much, but i broke my back smashed my femur, cuts all over my hands nearly, died from a blood clot did 9 weeks in hosp. never want to go through that again and im still having treatment over two years later. and been left with life changing injurys.
